Many things in life are easier said than done. However, as life teaches me it's lessons, both good and bad, I have learned a few things.
I know most of these things may sound like parts of a Hallmark card but actually they aren't. They all boil down to the last one. Don't take life for granted.
As kids and teenagers in the US, we don't think about things like freedom, liberties, right to worship and many other privileges, We have always known these things and can't fathom not having the freedoms and privileges we have.
I am currently managing a campaign for a local mayor's race. I don't expect it to get ugly and it shouldn't, but being directly involved in politics for the first time in a while has me thinking... a lot. I love the whole idea of voting and being able to decide who our leaders are going to be. So many people do not have that privilege and many are dying at the hands of tyrants who doesn't want them to ever have it.
I had a very dear friend tell me recently that she doesn't vote. "It's just not my thing." I was totally blown away that this person who I love dearly doesn't realize the gift she has doesn't even use it. It is very disappointing to see that many people feel this way.
As I watch Russia invade Ukraine, and take the lives of so many innocent people, it makes me realize how those of us who have freedom take it for granted. No one is promised tomorrow, however, it is so much worse when another person is forcing their will upon your country that you are willing to give your life to try and stop it. Our forefathers knew how important democracy was and fought hard for us to have it today.
It is heartbreaking for so many of our loved ones to be back on the line of defense for other countries to have freedom. I pray for all those in harms way and the ones making the decisions for them to be there. I am also proud that we are the ones others look to for understanding and assistance when it comes to such big issues.
I am thankful for my freedom and privileges and I hope I never take life for granted. No we are not promised tomorrow and we should make every day count until our tomorrows are no more. Make a difference in someone's life, tell those around you that you love them and trust God to take care of things.
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God to those who are called according to His purpose Romans 8:28 NASV
